I attended my first book signing in years (due to COVID) yesterday. Because of the virus they restricted authors from bringing anything but bookmarks/postcards. WHAT? No swag bags? No chocolate? No bookstand? No banner? Just me and my books? GASP!
Even with less to hide behind, I still managed to have a good time. Because of COVID they split the day into two sessions. One from 9-12 and one from 1-4, which was good for keeping the number of bodies lower, but it meant half the time to meet new readers/authors, which is always the best part of a signing.
I got to catch up with my Grad school classmate and local Maine author Anne Britting Oleson and fellow Maine Romance Writer member Irene M. Drago.
It was exciting to have my newest release, Girl on Fire there. It was definitely the book people gravitated to. Not that I can blame them, the cover does a great job of drawing a person in.
The best part of the day was being able to chat with the author to my right, the debut author Stephen King has been raving about, Caitlin Wahrer. She was an absolute delight to chat with and am thrilled with the release of her first book’s success. Way to go, Caitlin!
Okay, I lied, the best part of the day was that when the event was done, I didn’t have to pack up any unsold books, and lug them to my car because the event takes all of the unsold books and uses them to stock their bookstores. Sherman’s bookstores have eight stores located all across Maine, so if you’re ever in one of their stores and see one of my titles on their shelves, take a photo and send it my way. I love to see my books out in the wild!
Well, I’m off to Write all the Words, Danielle
