It’s my birthday: Here’s a gift!

While today might be my birthday (I’m 47, I think? Who remembers at this point?) I’ve never been one for celebrating it. I’d rather give people stuff than receive things, so today, I’m giving you something I wasn’t planning on sharing quite yet, but since it’s done and will release next month… I thought I’d show it off now!

Today, I’m revealing not only the title but the cover of next month’s book:

The Triple Cover Reveal!

If you’ve read this blog long enough, you know that I love to plan. Like, LOVE it. I use a version of the image below for three years out to map project timelines. The goal for me is to try to have a release each quarter (something I’ve built up to over the years.) Normally, the month before a release, I’d do a cover reveal as part of my marketing plan.

However, this year, I’m doing a five-book series, which are all releasing within a few months of each other. Which is great for readers. Tricky for planners. When you release a rapid-release series, it requires pre-order info for the next book. And if you have a pre-order link, you need a cover and poof… there goes the cover reveal plan that used to work. Ah, the best-laid plans.

But the upheaval of my plan is your gain! It means you get to see the first three covers that will release this year all at the same time! May I present, Vol. 1-3.

Mad props to my designer for increasing the intensity of the bouquet color to match the growing intensity of their growing relationship. The tag line for each is a different phase of their relationship as well. Not only does each book have to have a story arc, but the series needs to as well. That requires a lot of braining!

This is the first series I’ve ever written, and so far, it’s been super fun to write. I sure hope you are having as much fun with Jasmine and Shawn as I have had writing them. If you missed it, last week I gave readers a FREE prequel story to this series. It’s Shawn’s story in the moments leading up to where Vol. 1 begins and I think it gives you a little insight into his headspace that day.

Vol. 1 is live, Vol. 2 is on pre-order, and Vol. 3 will be up for pre-order soon. Vol. 4 and 5 will come out early next year so I can have time this year to release another book that has been waiting its turn ever so patiently.

Today is the day: Cover Time!

Today is the day that we get not only the full cover reveal for my next project but also the title!

Here it is!

Wait a second… Isn’t that the same book you told us about that was on Kindle Vella? Yup. Sure is. But I’ve pulled it off from Kindle Vella (it should disappear soon off the platform) to make it available wide, which means you don’t need to read it an episode at a time or learn a whole new way of reading just to enjoy the story. You can read it like you read all of my other stuff. In ebook or paperback!

I heard many of you asking if this would ever be made into a regular book and I listened! After leaving it in Vella a few months, I decided to pull it and make it wide so the majority of my readers could enjoy it!

This will be a rapid-release set of novellas, which means you’ll only need to wait a few months between stories vs years! How exciting! The series will revolve around the same couple as they navigate their given circumstances. And you know me, I like to give my characters hard circumstances.

You might be wondering if there is anything different about this wide distribution of the book over the Kindle Vella version. Yes and no. The heart of the story is still the same, but what is different, is a few character names changed (that’s a story for a different day) and this new version has been officially edited. (The Vella version I didn’t bother with a professional edit because the platform was so new. I didn’t want to put too much money into an unknown platform.) That means, this version is more fleshed out, grammatically stronger, and hopefully, a more enjoyable ride. *snicker. Ride.

This will be a full steam novella, so if you like fade to black stories, this one is not for you. BUT, if you like some spice with your romance, might I suggest adding this one to your pile.

Hard to even see the girl inside the smoke. It left readers unsure what the book was about.

Where I was afraid to lift up the trauma and pyromania aspect that Sarah goes through, City Owl Press wasn’t. They put it all right there on the cover. Readers who see this cover will know that they are about to go on one hell of a bumpy ride. And, ultimately, that’s what a cover should do. Let you know what the feel of the book is without reading a word.

It’s time, it’s time! Cover Reveal time!

I have had this cover for MONTHS and it’s been killing me not to share it sooner, but today is the day. My first Young Adult (YA) book is having its cover and title reveal!

It started as a stupid assignment: Photograph the moon in all its phases. Child’s play for high school junior Heather Daughtry. Science, she understood. How to be a wallflower, easy. Being besties with an extrovert who radiated awesomeness, she had down pat. Boys, however, were a subject she just couldn’t get a handle on. 

Especially after Josh Gavin, the guy Heather had been infatuated with for three years, asks her best friend, Trista, to Homecoming instead of her. The reality Heather is used to shifts, then turns upside-down after a plan is concocted with Trista to put Josh back into Heather’s reach. It would be insane, that much she knew, but she followed Trista… Because that’s what moons do.

How it came to be:
I wrote a YA book because I wanted to write something my teenagers could read (if they were so inclined.) All of my other books, they are forbidden to read until they are at least 40, and maybe not even then. Ha!

The inspiration for the book came from one image that I picked up at random from a set of cards that were face down. This was the card that I picked.

From there, the book was born. What Moons Do is a Coming of Age story about the challenges of accepting who you are in the middle of adolescence.
